After Logan meets a girl at a bar, only to discover she had been pronounced dead earlier that evening, he’s thrown for a bit of a loop. With two other friends, they start looking into a series of suspicious deaths and some strange seeds that seem to be related.
I’ll start off with the honest bias I’m going to have towards Seed Me, and that is that it is set in my hometown. Reading a book with locations you recognize, picturing walking down the street that you grew up, made me love this book immediately. So I know I have a bias there, but if you also like reading books where you can easily visualize every setting, then you might just understand. If you’re an Edmontonian and you’ve always wanted a book set in your hometown, then look no further!
Now that my bias is out of the way, I can also safely say I had a helluva good time with Seed Me! A friend previously described it as a more aggressive Little Shop of Horrors, and that made me know I needed it. While there weren’t any catchy songs in it, I can still see the comparison. There’s a subtle humour throughout, while still managing some unsettling moments, definitely a few gruesome spots, and murder plants. Who doesn’t love a good murder plant?
Seed Me was a really fun horror book that does nicely balance out the genre, never hitting too hard on being gross for the sake of it, and managing to have fun dialogue, relatable characters, some laugh out loud funny moments, while building up tension as it goes. If you’re looking for some fun horror, Lavery is definitely an author to check out.

'Captivating characters and a cleverly designed, fantastical plot. A highly recommended set of shorts.'

REVIEW
After glancing at the cover for this book and skimming the blurb, I decided this is going to be very dark, very gritty, and very fantastical. And I wasn't far wrong. Written by the talented Konn Lavery, it follows the Nameless One who is attempting to understand the deaths of 22 souls. What follows is a cleverly plotted story - divided up into 22 individual shorts - populated with intriguing, often charismatic characters who all seem to be in a different state of flux.
In terms of writing style, this is where the author truly excels. Not only is the pacing excellent, there's also a good balance between powerful descriptive prose and realistic, well-written dialogue. This is a very atmospheric story. The author knows his setting - the mysterious Midway - and wants the reader, like the characters, to be immersed in it.
This set of shorts is not a simple read; the reader will have to work hard to keep up with what's going on, why it's going on, and even where it's happening. But it's intriguing stuff. It'll hook you in. And I suspect, like me, you will end up determined to find the answers the Nameless One is looking for.
Who is the book for? Well, if you enjoy the later Clive Cussler novels full of lazy predictability, this book is not for you. But if you don't mind working a little, if you enjoy being intrigued, of never knowing what will happen next but really, really wanting to know, this set of shorts will be right up your street.
Enjoy!

Its #ireadcanadianday2021!
The last Canadian book I read was the short story collection by @writewatson.
It's humorous, intense, and fun.
Low-Level Buzz was my personal favourite for its mix of grit and cults. In the collection, you will find a wide range of themes, action, fantasy, scifi, some horrors, lightheartedness, and excitement in each story.
Read some Canadian stuff.
